Unlocking Impact via the South American Regenerative Agriculture (SARA) Programme

Tuesday 18 November, 2025
a person holding a sprouting plant

As the SARA (South American Regenerative Agriculture) programme nears its first carbon credit issuance under Verra, we invite you to join us in unpacking how this leading-edge initiative delivers meaningful climate, nature, and social outcomes. Together with our partner Ruuts, we explore how SARA is pioneering scalable, high-integrity solutions at the nexus of regenerative grazing, ecosystem restoration, and rural livelihoods.

Officially validated and registered by Verra, SARA became one of the first programmes globally to be approved under the new VM0042 methodology – and the first-ever in Argentina, Paraguay, and Chile. This milestone unlocks the potential to generate over one million tonnes of carbon removals annually, starting in the coming years.

The programme already encompasses 130+ farms across 150,000 hectares, targeting expansion to 500,000 hectares of regenerated lands across Latin America.

About this webinar

This session was designed for sustainability leaders, investors, and organisations seeking credible, high-impact nature-based solutions that go beyond carbon – delivering real-world climate, biodiversity, and community outcomes. It covered:

  • Impact to date and future projections: Insight into verified and forecasted carbon removals, biodiversity gains, landscape restoration, and wider ecosystem benefits.
  • Societal value: How SARA empowers farmers through knowledge sharing, enhances climate resilience, and strengthens local economies.
  • How the framework works: Learnings about the regenerative grazing model, soil carbon measurement, ecological monitoring, and the MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) systems that underpin SARA’s integrity.
  • SARA’s journey and registration success: What Verra registration means for credibility, scalability, and access to high-quality carbon markets.
  • Investment insights: How your organisation can invest in SARA through high-integrity carbon credits via Anthesis, and how this supports your climate, nature, and sustainability goals.

Listen to the webinar to learn how you can engage with SARA and similar initiatives to advance your own sustainability goals.

As regulatory, market, and stakeholder expectations rapidly evolve, greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting – guided by frameworks such as the GHG Protocol – is becoming more complex and more critical than ever.

Organisations face growing pressure to measure and disclose emissions with accuracy, transparency, and accountability, while also demonstrating tangible progress in reducing their carbon footprint.

With the GHG Protocol currently open for consultation on its Scope 2 guidance, now is the time to review and align reporting practices with emerging updates.

This webinar will explore the key shifts shaping the reporting landscape, including:

  • New Regulatory Requirements: Explore the implications of emerging disclosure mandates, including California’s SB 253, the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the SEC’s proposed climate disclosure rules, the ISSB standards (IFRS S1 & S2), and updates to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, all of which are setting new expectations for corporate climate reporting and assurance.
  • Data Integrity and Assurance: Learn how to prepare GHG inventories and disclosures for increased scrutiny, from assurance requirements under CSRD to the audit-ready expectations of investors and regulators.
  • Technology for Assurance and Performance: Learn how Anthesis’ digital solutions underpin credible, audit-ready disclosures by connecting sustainability data across your organisation. Acting as your sustainability data backbone, our digital tools turn complex, fragmented data into actionable intelligence – delivering the clarity, confidence, and performance needed to stay ahead in a rapidly evolving reporting landscape.

About this webinar

Mind the Purpose Gap: Launch Event

15 October, 2025
ferns growing in a gap in stone

What a wonderful evening – we were thrilled with the energy and engagement at the Purpose Gap launch event. From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere was one of curiosity, connection, and shared commitment to driving purposeful change in business.

A particular highlight was the Q&A session, which evolved into a spontaneous and wide-ranging conversation among attendees. It was inspiring to see so many voices contributing to a thoughtful and honest dialogue about the challenges and opportunities surrounding corporate purpose today.

Some of the key themes that emerged included:

  • Legal frameworks and accountability: There is currently no legal obligation for companies to embed purpose in their articles of association, raising questions about how to formalise and protect purpose-driven strategies.
  • Measuring purpose: Attendees agreed that showing purpose as something measurable is powerful. While hard metrics may be elusive, identifying clear indicators can help organisations track progress and impact.
  • Board education and leadership: Educating boards on the strategic value of purpose is crucial. Many felt that purpose has taken a back seat in recent years, and reframing it as a core business driver – not a trade-off – is essential. Attendees felt they need the tools to help with this repositioning.
  • Operational integration: Purpose should run through operational strategy, not sit apart from it. Framing it as a binary choice or a cost is unhelpful; instead, it should be seen as a lens through which all decisions are made.
  • Financial impact and storytelling: Although executive teams often struggle to settle on the financial implications of purpose, the group discussed the importance of better data, evidence, and storytelling to make the case internally.
  • Sector-specific challenges: purpose can be seen as a new topic for C-suites and boards to have to take into consideration and it’s easy for them to fall back into the muscle memory of financial targets and P&Ls.  With many of the fastest growing sectors facing increasing regulatory compliance and material risk, purpose initiatives can require fresh thinking in order to stay relevant and front of mind, when there can be other, seemingly more urgent , fires to fight.

We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us and contributed to such a rich and meaningful evening.

Key takeaways from the Corporate Affairs Summit 2025

The discussions at the Corporate Affairs Summit in Ireland provided valuable insights into how organisations are approaching sustainability communications in 2025. Most attendees reported their orgs continue to communicate externally around sustainability initiatives – albeit with some witnessing an element of scaling back. The reasons given for this reveal emerging trends in how corporate affairs leaders are navigating the landscape.

Diverging approaches to sustainability communications

  • Scaling back: Some organisations, particularly those headquartered in the US, highlighted that communication strategies are tightly controlled by corporate HQ. Others expressed caution, preferring to “strategically wait” until their sustainability claims could be substantiated by demonstrable progress.
  • Maintaining visibility: Many leaders continue to engage externally, although with mixed results. Press releases are often overlooked by media outlets, with journalists showing reduced interest in sustainability initiatives. Others prioritise topics with the highest customer relevance, while some acknowledged that stakeholders already assume sustainability measures are underway, reinforcing the need to align perception with reality.

Broader themes and insights

  • The human role amidst AI: With AI reshaping communications, corporate affairs professionals remain essential to contextualise information, build empathy, and craft narratives that cut through digital noise. Storytelling and critical interpretation are more important than ever.
  • Effective case studies: To resonate in today’s environment, sustainability case studies must go beyond performance data. Recommendations, testimonials, and human perspectives enhance credibility and impact.
  • Resource pressures: Organisations continue to face the challenge of “doing more with less,” intensifying the need for clarity and prioritisation in communications.
  • Critical skills: Relationship capital and human judgement are emerging as the most valuable capabilities for leaders navigating complex stakeholder environments.

Leadership alignment and strategic influence

  • Convincing the C-Suite: Directors of Sustainability and Communications noted the challenge of securing leadership attention on sustainability communications, with many CEOs focused elsewhere, echoing themes from The Cost of Silence
  • Understanding perceptions: Barry Field, Corporate Affairs Director at AIB, stressed the importance of research to understand how organisations are perceived—an approach aligned with Anthesis’ recommendations for evidence-led communication strategies.
  • Value-based language: Rosie Valentine, Global Director of Internal Communications, Inclusion & Engagement at Primark, highlighted the importance of inclusive, values-driven language. For example, using terms such as belonging rather than DEI to avoid polarisation. This reinforces the principle that authentic, human-centred communications resonate more strongly with diverse audiences.

Navigating Canada’s New Green Claims Rules

09 September, 2025
Forest environment

Stay on the right side of Canada’s new green claims regulations while still standing out from the crowd

Environmental marketing is big business in Canada, but consumer trust in green claims is at an all time low. To address this, the Canadian Government updated its Competition Act, introducing new provisions affecting when and how companies can make environmental marketing claims about their products, services, operations, and future commitments.

In this webinar, Anthesis experts break down the new legal landscape, the role of the Competition Bureau in enforcement, what its recently published guidance tells us, and what these changes mean for businesses operating in or selling into Canada.

Whether you’re leading ESG strategy, shaping brand and comms, or responsible for managing risk, this session will help you stay on the right side of Canada’s new green claims regulations, and to stand out on a much quieter field with impactful green claims.

About this webinar

On June 5th, 2025, Canada’s Competition Bureau published new environmental claims guidance based on amendments to the Competition Act, which came into force in June 2024.

While Canada’s approach aligns with global efforts to address greenwashing, it goes further by directly targeting “greenwishing” – future-facing environmental targets or commitments made without credible delivery plans or follow-through.

In this session, Anthesis experts explore what these changes mean for your business, and how you can still make the most out of your green claims.

The Cost of Silence Webinar

20 August, 2025
cost of silence

Listen back to our webinar to discover the hidden price brands pay for staying silent over environmental sustainability.

63% of FTSE 100 companies are at risk of greenhushing over concerns about corporate greenwashing.

With increased scrutiny over green claims, public backlash, and at times legal action, it’s no wonder businesses can be hesitant to shout about their environmental initiatives.

But the cost of silence is real.

It’s something Revolt – part of Anthesis – has explored in its most recent report, The Cost of Silence.

EPR: What We've Learned So Far

Extended producer responsibility for packaging has arrived in the United States and is evolving in Canada. For many producers, this is the first time they have had to report on the packaging introduced into a specific state or province.

In this informative webinar, Anthesis packaging EPR experts address what we’ve learned so far in helping clients to define their methodology, gather their numbers, and submit on-time reports for Oregon’s EPR laws. The webinar covers what to do, what not to do, and what to consider as packaging EPR programs come on-line.

Our experts focus on:

  • The evolving EPR landscape in North America
  • The reporting cycle and how to navigate through it
  • How to assemble packaging data for maximum utility and minimum frustration
  • What to do if your data is in need of an uplift
  • How to move beyond compliance with strategies for optimization
  • What’s coming up, fast

If you sell products and use packaging within North America, then you may be affected by upcoming EPR programs and legislation. Watch the webinar recording to learn more about the next steps you can take to prepare.

Climate Risk Disclosure as a Strategic Catalyst: Leading Through California’s SB 261

27 August, 2025
California Highway

California’s SB 261 is more than a regulatory requirement—it’s a catalyst for business transformation and resilience.

As mandatory climate-related financial disclosures become a reality, companies have a choice: treat SB 261 as a box-ticking exercise, or use it to build resilience, strengthen reputation, and lead in a rapidly shifting marketplace. Companies that use responding to SB 261 as a strategic tool as well as a compliance obligation will be better positioned to meet fast evolving regulatory and stakeholder demands globally.

At Anthesis, we see SB 261 as an opportunity to embed climate risk into core business strategy, unlock innovation, and strengthen resilience. This webinar is designed for companies who want to understand the road to compliance, as well as those interested in going beyond compliance—to embed climate risk into their governance structures and business strategy, unlock innovation, and gain a competitive advantage.

With our deep expertise in climate risk and high-integrity disclosure, Anthesis helps businesses navigate SB 261 not only as a compliance challenge, but also as an opportunity to lead in the low-carbon, nature-positive economy.

Activating Clean Energy Strategies

How Energy Attribute Certificates Support Your Net Zero Transition
Hydropower renewable energy

As organisations accelerate their net zero journeys, choosing credible, science-aligned solutions for reducing emissions is critical. Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) / Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) play a key role in enabling clean energy procurement and reducing Scope 2 emissions in a transparent, traceable way.

RECs / EACs provide an immediate pathway to support the energy transition and can play a pivotal role in your organisation’s decarbonisation roadmap.

In this webinar, you’ll explore how to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of RECs / EACs, and their role in verifying renewable energy consumption
  • Integrate clean electricity sourcing into your wider climate strategy — from green tariffs to longer-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs/VPPAs)
  • Align your renewable energy claims with recognised reporting standards (GHG Protocol, Re100, SBTi)
  • Prepare yourself for upcoming changes to the treatment of RECs/EACs under the GHG Protocol.
  • Evaluate emerging offerings from the next generation of EACs, including 24/7 matching, emissionality-based offerings, and high-impact certificates with stronger claims of additionality.
  • Make informed, credible decisions that support real decarbonisation and climate activation across your value chain

Building Low Carbon & Resilient Value Chains Through Insetting

A Climate and Nature Approach
Field

As climate risk intensifies and stakeholder expectations rise, companies are under growing pressure to decarbonise their value chains while delivering meaningful impact for nature and communities. Insetting offers a powerful opportunity to do both – by investing in carbon and nature-based interventions within your own supply chain, as buyer of raw materials, and retailer, as well as for farmers and suppliers.

Join Anthesis for a practical and thought-provoking webinar exploring how insetting can drive measurable climate and nature outcomes, build supply chain resilience, and unlock long-term business value.

What you’ll learn:

  • What insetting is – and what it isn’t: Understand how insetting differs from offsetting, and why it’s gaining traction as a high-integrity, value-aligned climate strategy.
  • Anthesis’ approach to insetting: Learn how we co-design and implement insetting programmes that are credible, science-aligned, and tailored to each client’s unique supply chain and sustainability goals.
  • Driving impact for climate and nature: Explore how insetting delivers emissions reductions or carbon removals and nature-positive outcomes – from soil health and water security to biodiversity and community resilience.
  • Real-world examples: Hear how Anthesis is supporting global brands to develop insetting strategies across agriculture, food & beverage, textiles, and more.
  • Connecting insetting to broader climate action: See how insetting fits within Scope 3 reduction strategies, SBTi FLAG guidance, and emerging regulatory and market frameworks.

This session is ideal for sustainability, procurement, and supply chain leaders looking to embed climate and nature action into the core of their business operations.

Sustainable Chemistry: REACH Registration Process https://www.anthesisgroup.com/events/sustainable-chemistry-reach-regulation/ Fri, 23 May 2025 19:37:00 +0000 https://www.anthesisgroup.com/?post_type=event&p=64107

The EU’s REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 came in to force nearly 20 years ago and has been evolving ever since then. One key principle of REACH is “no data, no market” which places obligations on chemical manufacturers and importers to identify and manage their risks throughout the lifecycle.

Those companies manufacturing or importing chemicals at 1 tonne/year or more (on their own, or in mixtures or articles), must submit a Registration dossier to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) – without this, they may not be able to access the market. To date, nearly 23,000 unique chemicals have been registered with ECHA.

An Overview of SBTi’s DRAFT Corporate Net-Zero Standard Version 2.0 for Public Consultation

What this evolution might mean for your business
Tree leaves

The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has released draft Version 2.0 of its Corporate Net-Zero Standard for public consultation. This updated version, published in March 2025, introduces new requirements for businesses to set, track, and adjust their near-term and net-zero targets.

Coming at a pivotal time as many companies are looking to revalidate their targets, the draft emphasises action and offers flexible pathways for companies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or sooner.

In this webinar, our Net-Zero experts discuss:

  • The key changes proposed in Version 2.0 of the Corporate Net-Zero Standard.
  • What these changes may mean for your business, your current targets, and targets that you may be setting or revalidating.
  • How best to engage in the public consultation period, and our recommendations for providing feedback.

The webinar provides you with an understanding of the proposed changes and implications in the draft Version 2.0 of the Corporate Net-Zero Standard, and ensures your organisation’s SBTs remain credible, ambitious, and science-driven.

This webinar also offers the necessary overview for your business to provide thoughtful feedback to SBTi during the public consultation to meaningfully shape the final version of this standard.

Harnessing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)

A Key Tool for Decarbonisation
mountain with power lines

As organisations strive to meet ambitious net zero targets, securing access to renewable energy is essential in the decarbonisation journey. Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) present a strategic solution, allowing businesses to directly procure clean electricity from renewable energy generators. This not only ensures long-term price stability but also helps reduce carbon footprints and accelerates the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon economy.

This insightful webinar introduces the fundamentals of PPAs, their significance in corporate sustainability strategies, and how organisations can integrate them effectively into a decarbonisation roadmap.

Discover

  • What are PPAs? We elaborate on the different types of PPAs; such as Physical and Virtual PPAs, and the benefits that each can offer.
  • Why PPAs matter. Examples of how PPAs can specifically reduce emissions and stabilise costs with real-world case studies where possible.
  • How to Get Started. Key considerations for businesses looking to enter a PPA: conducting an energy audit, setting realistic decarbonisation targets, risk assessments and engaging with developers.
  • Market Trends and Opportunities. Insights into the evolving PPA landscape, including some regulatory obstacles and accounting challenges (i.e. IFRS-9 and treatment of PPAs as a derivative on a company’s P&L).

CBAM Financial Impacts in 2026

What Your Business Needs to Know Now
freight on a ship

Is your business ready for CBAM carbon pricing in 2026?

While many CBAM-affected businesses have concentrated on compliance, data collection and reporting are just the surface of the challenge.

From 2026, CBAM carbon pricing will come into force, progressively increasing the cost of CBAM-covered goods imported into the EU. This shift will carry significant financial implications for both EU importers and non-EU exporters.

Proactive businesses that assess and mitigate their CBAM exposure today can not only reduce risks but also strengthen their competitive advantage. Inaction, however, leaves businesses navigating without a clear course.

ETS-2 Explained: Exploring the Next Chapter of EU Emissions Trading https://www.anthesisgroup.com/events/ets-2-explained-exploring-the-next-chapter-of-eu-emissions-trading/ Thu, 16 Jan 2025 12:39:14 +0000 https://anthesisglobal.wpenginepowered.com/?post_type=event&p=62175

ETS-2 Explained

Exploring the Next Chapter of EU Emissions Trading
aerial view of a city roundabout

The EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) is evolving to accelerate progress toward the EU’s climate goals of a 55% emissions reduction by 2030 and net zero by 2050.

ETS-2, set to launch in 2027, represents a significant expansion by targeting CO₂ emissions from fuel combustion in transport, as well as heating and cooling for buildings.

This means that indirect, Scope 3 emissions from the fossil fuel industry will also be addressed. With the potential to extend coverage to additional sectors through national opt-in policies, ETS-2 will regulate a broader share of EU emissions, driving the transition towards clean energy solutions and technologies.

This upstream system places the responsibility for CO₂ allowances on fuel suppliers, creating incentives to invest in cleaner fuels, electrification, and decarbonisation strategies. However, ETS-2 introduces unique challenges, including its implications for Scope 3 emissions, the likelihood of high CO₂ prices, cost pass-through to consumers, and higher marginal CO₂ abatement costs compared to ETS-1.

Demystifying Renewable Energy Attribute Certificates

hydropower dam

RECs/EACs are documents that prove electricity was produced from renewable sources like wind, solar, or hydro power. When companies buy RECs/EACs, they demonstrate their commitment to clean energy. These certificates guarantee that an equivalent amount of renewable electricity has been generated and fed into the grid, even if their energy provider does not supply it directly.

This approach is an important part of a Net Zero transition, reducing your Scope 2 emissions in line with mandatory legislation and voluntary reporting standards.

In this webinar, you will:

  • Gain a clear understanding of the fundamentals of purchasing and utilising RECs/EACs.
  • Discover how RECs/EACs align with green tariffs and their role in sustainability strategies.
  • Identify the most suitable options for your organisation, whether unbundled RECs/EACs or longer-term commitments like PPAs/VPPAs.
  • Learn about reporting requirements for RECs/EACs.
  • Explore emerging offerings such as 24/7 reporting, emissionality and additionality-focused RECs/EACs.

Join Patrick Swords, Principal Carbon and Renewable Energy Advisor, for a deep dive to gain knowledge that supports your company’s renewable energy goals.

This means that indirect, Scope 3 emissions from the fossil fuel industry will also be addressed. With the potential to extend coverage to additional sectors through national opt-in policies, ETS-2 will regulate a broader share of EU emissions, driving the transition towards clean energy solutions and technologies.

Environmental Labelling: Positioning PEF in the European and French Regulatory Context

This webinar is in French

Does your company market products subject to environmental labelling? Would you like to communicate the sustainability of your products?

The European Commission’s Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) method provides a methodological framework for measuring the environmental performance of products.

Based on established practices and international standards such as ISO 14000/44, it provides meticulous, harmonised guidelines for modelling, calculating and declaring the life-cycle environmental impacts of goods, services and organisations. This reliable framework enables companies to produce credible environmental information to support sustainability decision-making.

The Product Environmental Footprint Categories (PEFCR) rules are developed to ensure reproducible, comparable and verifiable results for a specific product group or sector.

An accelerating regulatory environment:

  • In France, a number of experiments are underway on environmental product labelling, and regulations for the food and textile sectors are expected to be rolled out by the end of 2024.
  • At European level, the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) is set to revolutionise the way products are designed, manufactured and marketed in the EU. This comprehensive regulation goes beyond energy efficiency to encompass a wider range of environmental considerations throughout a product’s life cycle, including the introduction of the digital product passport.

It is therefore essential to take advantage of the tools and methodologies available to implement environmental product labelling in compliance with these new regulations.

Take part in our webinar to better understand :

  • What is the link between the PEF, the method recommended by the EU, and the French context of environmental labelling?
  • What is the role of the PEFCR?
  • What are the major forthcoming regulatory changes concerning environmental product labelling?

Demystifying Sustainability

A Biodiversity, Social, and Climate Roadmap
a butterfly on flowers

The concept of net-zero carbon emissions comes from climate science — we have studied how to measure emissions from human activities and have methods to assess impact.

While there is urgency in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to prevent further catastrophic climate change, the climate is just one of several critical and interdependent components of our life-sustaining web. Equally important are an abundance of diverse species, access to clean air and water, and equity and justice.

To implement and achieve net-zero, we must also protect these social and natural systems and incorporate them into net-zero strategies.

Our live panel discussion featured Anthesis experts discussing the application of biodiversity, social, and climate lenses to corporate sustainability; and how to assess and report on risks, opportunities, and impacts in an integrated way.

In this webinar, you will gain valuable insight into:

  • Examining the benefits of developing a Biodiversity, Social, and Climate Roadmap for companies, clients, and communities.
  • Exploring how to demystify sustainability and why it is increasingly important for organisations to take holistic action across biodiversity, social, and climate aspects of their operations.
  • Key regulations and frameworks requiring companies to understand the impacts their operations and value chains have on biodiversity, society, and climate.
  • Understanding Anthesis’ approach to this complex topic.

CSRD in the Portfolio: How Private Equity Can Help Portfolio Companies Report with Confidence https://www.anthesisgroup.com/events/csrd-in-the-portfolio-how-private-equity-can-help-portfolio-companies-report-with-confidence/ Wed, 24 Apr 2024 18:50:14 +0000 https://anthesisglobal.wpenginepowered.com/?post_type=event&p=58042

CSRD in the Portfolio

How Private Equity Can Help Portfolio Companies Report with Confidence

Private Equity firms seek to help obligated portfolio companies prepare their first sustainability reporting aligned to the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). However, resources and budget are scarce, and most sponsor-backed companies do not need to report until FY2025. This creates the temptation to delay efforts. But the amount of work needed to prepare compliant disclosures means the time to begin CSRD workstreams is now.

This live panel discussion featured Daniel D’Ambrosio, ESG Partner from law firm Kirkland & Ellis; Steve Hatfield, Co-Head of Global Sustainability at Carlyle; Nathalia Millan, Head of ESG for Private Equity at Tikehau Captial, and Anthesis CSRD expert Annika Sjöberg as we discussed the challenges facing private equity portfolios and best practice solutions we are seeing in the marketplace.

Inside the webinar

The speakers share practical insights on:

  • Different types of portfolio companies — from proactive to unprepared — and tailored approaches to support each on their reporting journey.
  • Tackling challenges around double materiality assessments, fragmented data collection, and the need for auditable assurance processes.
  • Legal and fund-level considerations, including consistency of disclosures with investor commitments and managing reputational risk.
  • Strategic opportunities to embed sustainability into business models, turning regulatory compliance into a source of differentiation and long-term value creation.

Discover how private equity firms and their portfolio companies can move beyond compliance to drive resilience and value under CSRD.

CSRD: Exploring the Latest Double Materiality Updates with EFRAG

With the latest update to the implementation guidance by EFRAG, the crucial questions are: Have you started the process of adapting to these changes? Have you faced any challenges implementing double materiality?

The introduction of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) arguably marks the most significant change to date in corporate sustainability reporting, and we are here to help you with the transition. Transforming Your Organisation For Success

Rising to the challenges of sustainability, the climate crisis, and social exclusion will ultimately require top-to-bottom transformation across businesses and value chains. Leadership will need to be prepared to navigate challenges from nature dependencies, climate risk, circularity and digitisation to engaging stakeholders and making the investment case for longer-term security and returns.

Watch Anthesis Chief Enterprise Officer Dean Sanders, and CEOs Stuart McLachlan and Chantelle Ludski as they look at what sustainable transformation looks like for organisations. They explored the solutions available to support businesses to move beyond mandatory requirements, enabling them to reduce risk, build resilience and outperform in their sector.

Financing Sustainable Change

Sustainable change requires investment capital. That’s whether making operational changes to existing organisations to fundamentally reduce impacts or investing in the businesses and infrastructure of the future, that will drive the transition to a sustainable, low carbon economy. Governments understand this and are creating regulations designed to ensure capital flows to the truly sustainable projects and enterprises; investors are responding by redirecting capital.

This session explored:

  • Options for businesses seeking to raise capital to fund sustainable change
  • How superior ESG performance will allow businesses to access finance
  • The current and forthcoming regulations and labels defining what is a sustainable investment

Taking Full Responsibility for Your Impact Now

To reach global net zero targets, organisations must avoid and reduce their negative climate impact as much as possible by 2030. But this is not enough. As agreed in the latest IPCC reports and the last two climate agreements, to take full responsibility for emissions while on the journey to net zero, business leaders must invest in certified, verified projects that compensate for the emissions they are producing now while restoring climate and nature.

In this session, we guided attendees through the importance of offsetting as a must have instrument in any net zero transition. We looked at examples of viable projects and how large, multi-national companies have used offsetting in a way that is permanent, meaningful and in keeping with their targets as well as their company culture and values.

Enabling a Circular Scope 3 – The Value of Reducing Your Product Carbon Footprint

For many companies, Scope 3 emissions account for around 90% of their total carbon footprint. A major source of Scope 3 emissions relate to the products we sell: the materials used in those products, how the product is made, how it’s used by our customers, and what happens when our customers are done with our products. Often customers, whether B2B or consumers, are asking for products with lower carbon footprints. With strategic intent, meeting customer demand for lower product carbon footprints can materially lower the Scope 3 footprint as well.

The need for transformative change and circular solutions in this area is increasingly urgent – so in the fourth webinar in our Activator Summit series, our Anthesis experts examined real-world examples of circular transformation, exploring:

  • The relationship of your organisation’s product carbon footprint (PCF) to its Scope 3 footprint;
  • How a portfolio approach can drive large scale impact for you and your customers, and
  • How to accelerate transformation.

Managing the Business Risk and Opportunity of Nature

Every business relies on nature for resources and ecosystem services such as water, food, fibre, minerals, pollination of crops, water filtration and climate regulation, both in their own operations and supply chains, and for their employees and customers. But nature is at a tipping point. The natural resources and ecosystem services – that we all rely on and that powers our global economy – are under massive strain. Without transformative changes in the way we do business, nature-negative trends such as global declines in species populations as well as losses in efficiency and efficacy of ecosystem service provision are expected to increase even faster. Under current scenarios, over half of the world’s total GDP is at moderate or severe risk due to nature loss.

Nature is fundamental to solving the multiple crises we face: 37% of climate change mitigation needed to stay within 1.5 degrees of global warming can be provided by nature. The silently progressing water crises, unequally distributed impacts of climate change and Covid-19 have shown how interconnected the multiple crises are, with climate change and nature loss both exacerbating inequality. Integrated solutions are needed.

The role of business is critical to delivering a nature positive world by 2030. Building on existing commitments and actions related to nature, businesses should aim to halt and reverse negative impacts on nature and then aim for their positive impacts to outweigh their negative ones in similar types of ecosystems.

Join Anthesis for a conversation with Chief Risk and Chief Financial Officers on how organisations can begin to put nature’s value on the balance sheet when making decisions. Also, get a first glimpse of the Self-Assessment and Toolkit, which Anthesis has been developing with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

Compliance as the Catalyst for Achieving Sustainable Performance

Incoming regulatory requirements are driving more companies than ever to evaluate and report on their sustainability impact. This will give stakeholders, including investors, customers, employees and suppliers, unprecedented access to information on an organisation’s impact and how they are moving the dial on sustainability.

This session explored how business leaders can lead their organisation beyond regulatory sustainability compliance to proactively address the current and future needs of the market, our environment, and society. Participants will learn about the connection between sustainability regulation, compliance, and societal needs and the necessity of setting their own bar for compliance to address their key climate risks and vulnerabilities while meeting evolving stakeholder demands. Using key theories and examples of organisations that are already seeing the benefits of going beyond compliance, attendees will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to create a strong sustainability strategy that supports their organisational objectives.

The session covered:

  • An overview of the evolving landscape of corporate sustainability regulations, including CSRD, SEC and TNFD
  • The business case for going beyond compliance
  • How business leaders can assess their environmental and social impact and set ambitious goals to address them

Communicating Your Impact: Balancing Accountability With Aspiration

An increase in regulation and stakeholder pressure means that companies are now under intense pressure and increased scrutiny when it comes to their communication. The risks for businesses include accusations of Greenwashing, climate litigation and reduction of consumer trust.

The session explored the challenging sustainability communications landscape that companies now face and how company leaders should communicate on sustainability. We looked at the need for companies to balance accountability, through evidence-based communication, with aspirational storytelling as they seek to communicate in this new world.
